ABOUT FANTASY SEASONS

Built by talking it through.

FantasySeasons.com started, as quite a few of my projects do, with a domain name and the feeling that there had to be something good hiding inside it.

It did not arrive fully formed

I have been building websites since the web still made a noise when it connected. I am used to making something, looking at it honestly and changing it when it does not work. Fantasy Seasons needed plenty of that.

The first version was not the answer. Neither was the second. We built them, played them and admitted when they were boring. That was more useful than pretending we had produced a masterpiece on the first attempt. Eventually, the game hiding inside the idea became clear: ten questions, mixed sports, one new season every day.

What is Forgebuilding?

Forgebuilding is the name I give to a practical way of making things. Human experience, instinct, taste and responsibility work in tandem with AI’s ability to research, code, test and keep hold of the details.

It is not one magic prompt, and it is not handing an idea to a machine and accepting whatever comes back. It is a working conversation. Build something. Test it. Question it. Improve it. Occasionally laugh at it. Sometimes throw part of it away and begin that bit again.

The human remains responsible for the idea and the final judgement. The machine helps make it real.

So, who is “us”?

“About us” is doing a little work here. Fantasy Seasons was conceived and directed by me, Ciaran Roche, working in tandem with an AI collaborator I call Napper. The Machine you meet in the game is the fictional commissioner. Napper helped build the actual thing. They are not quite the same machine, despite what either may claim.

I brought the domain, the idea, decades of making things for the web and the willingness to say when something was not good enough. Napper brought considerable patience, research, engineering and an unreasonable number of tests. The useful part happened between us.

THE PART WE ARE KEEPING

Do we have secret sauce?

Yes. It is not a single clever trick, though. It is the way the questions are asked, the standards used to judge the answers, the willingness to challenge each other and the rules that decide when something is ready. Every workshop keeps a few tools out of the front window. Ours stay there too.

Why Fantasy Seasons?

Because sport gives us something new to talk about every day, and because a small daily game should be enjoyable without demanding your money, your personal details or half your afternoon.

Fantasy Seasons is free. It has no wagering or prizes. You get the same daily challenge as everyone else, an honest result and something you can share with friends. Tomorrow, the table starts clean again.
